SKI BUNNY RACES T-SHIRT

The origin of the term “Ski Bunny” goes back to the 1950s and was used to describe novice skiers (especially women). The term “bunny” has been etymologically traced back to the 1700s as a slang word for a pretty girl as well. Upon hearing the term “ski bunny” for the first time in the ’60s, the mayor of Tripping Falls took the term literally and decided to train his pet rabbit, Atila the Bun, to ski.

Several weeks of work on training — and not a second spent on governmental duties — finally paid off. He revealed his trick to the Town, who cheered and laughed as the rodent made his way down the gentle slopes of Black Mountain.

The people of Tripping Falls decided to train their own pets rabbits to ski to compete with the mayor, and thus, the Ski Bunny races were born. While the mayor spent weeks training his animal, most people who compete in the race just slap a set of bunny-sized skis on their rabbits and give them a little nudge down the hill.

The sight of rabbits sliding down the mountainside on skis is adorable. The screams of unwilling rabbits competing in a race they can never possibly understand, however, is something you’ll likely never forget. But just in case, you can always remember the event with our Colorado Ski Bunny shirt.
